About Arthur Ashe
Arthur Ashe was an American professional tennis player, born on July 10, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia. He became the first Black man to win a Grand Slam title, achieving this historic milestone at the 1968 U.S. Open. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Ashe was also an influential civil rights activist and advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness, using his platform to promote social justice and equality until his death in 1993.
