About Descartes
René Descartes (1596–1650) was a French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist, often referred to as the father of modern Western philosophy. His work laid the groundwork for much of modern thought, with his famous dictum "Cogito, ergo sum" ("I think, therefore I am") encapsulating his foundational beliefs about existence and consciousness. In addition to his philosophical contributions, Descartes made significant advancements in mathematics, particularly through the development of Cartesian coordinate systems.
