About Hildegard of Bingen
Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) was a Benedictine abbess, visionary, composer, and polymath renowned for her contributions to music, medicine, and theology during the Middle Ages. She is best known for her mystical visions and writings, including "Scivias," which detailed her theological insights, and for her compositions that have influenced sacred music. Recognized as a Doctor of the Church in 2012, Hildegard is celebrated as one of the first female composers in Western history and an important figure in medieval thought.
