Thomas Hughes (1822-1896) was an English lawyer, novelist, and social reformer best known for his 1857 classic novel, "Tom Brown's School Days," which offers a vivid depiction of life at Rugby School and explores themes of friendship, camaraderie, and moral growth. A strong advocate for educational reform, Hughes was instrumental in the founding of the Rugby School's "Mission," promoting Christian values and social responsibility among the youth. He also co-founded the Working Men's College in London, dedicated to providing education and self-improvement opportunities for working-class men.
