About Arthur Ashe
Arthur Ashe was an American professional tennis player and civil rights activist, born on July 10, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia. As the first Black man to win the Wimbledon, US Open, and Australian Open titles, he broke barriers in the sport while advocating for equality and social justice. Notably, Ashe also raised awareness about HIV/AIDS after publicly disclosing his diagnosis in 1988, and he established the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS to support research and education.
